• To develop the four language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) using authentic materials from the BBC • To build the confidence and knowledge learners need to communicate in a real English-speaking environment • To cover topics such as personal information, family, relationships, routines, travel, culture, and work • To introduce grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation in clear and engaging ways • To practice functional language and communication skills for everyday situations

• Can understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. • Can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. • Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans. • Can write simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest. • Can understand texts that consist mainly of high frequency everyday or job-related language. • Can use a series of phrases and sentences to describe in simple terms their family and other people, living conditions, their educational background and their present or most recent job.
