Students will be able to independently perform communicative acts in English that demonstrate a highly developed sense of language awareness and a mastery of argumentation and effective social discourse.

The course aims to: - To develop verbal and reading skills of students - Improve the use of vocabulary learning strategies in reading - To learn how to write letters, reports and stories - To develop knowledge of lexical items including verbs and their rankings - To develop social interaction skills of students through learning how to start a conversation and give opinions

- “My home is my castle”. In the first lesson students will learn more about dwellings and appliances, present tenses, adverbs of frequency, state verbs, and phrasal verbs of break and bring. They will learn about expressing sympathy and writing an advertisement and an informal letter describing a house for rent.

- “While where’s life there’s hope”- life events. In the second module students will learn more about feelings and stages of life, an extract from jack and Jill text, past tenses, and expressing opinions on family matters and writing a narrative.

- “Travel broadens the mind”- travel; holidays, festivals. In the third module students are going to learn about weather expressions, holiday resorts, future tenses and conditionals. They will also learn to write a letter of complaint and a semi-formal transactional letter.

- “Earth is dearer than gold”- environment; energy. In this module students will see profound information on environmental problems and energy crisis, the “Little Land” poem, comparisons, phrasal verbs of fall and get. They will also learn how to write an essay providing solutions to problems.

- “Early to bed….” -health; daily routines. In this module students are going to read about health problems, describing feelings, character adjectives, making deductions, questions tags, speculating, giving advice, describing symptoms, and above all learning how to write “a for and against essay”.

- “Better safe than sorry”- technology and crime. In this module students will be able to get more information on technology at home, types of offence, relative clauses, passives, discussing pro and cons of using computers, and especially how to write an opinion essay.

- “Penny wise pound foolish”- shopping advertising. In this module students will be able to get more information on causative form, reporting speech, asking for information, reading “Portobello Road Market” and writing on a news report.

- “You are what you eat”- food, healthy eating, healthy habits. This module provides wide information on types of food, ways of cooking, quantifiers, countable and uncountable nouns, ordering a meal and writing a recipe plus an assessment report.

- “Every man to his taste”- sports and entertainment. In this module students will be able to learn more about types of sports, the Paralympics, conditional type 2 and 3, giving opinion, guessing content, and inviting a friend to a sporting event and above all writing a letter to the editor.

- “Spread the news”- the media, disaster. In this last module students are going to learn more about news, types of films, future perfect, linkers and quantifiers, phrasal verbs of stand, take and turn and above all learning how write a news report.
